More than 45,000 households in south central Indiana are in, or one emergency away from, poverty — including 30% of households with children and 43% of senior (65+) households.

Living paycheck to paycheck while hovering at or falling below the poverty line is the reality for 46 percent of families in our region.

No one can tackle these issues alone, but united we can make a meaningful impact.

Your support of United Way helps local people move from poverty to possibility. We need your help, please give today!

United Way of Monroe County is now United Way of South Central Indiana

Student United Way at Indiana University Bloomington

Student United Way is a student-led community change organization. Student leaders improve peoples' lives, develop leadership skills and join the growing United Way movement by giving, advocating, and volunteering on campus and in the community. Upon graduation, student leaders of United Way campus chapters join an alumni network that helps them stay involved in community change for the long term.

Our Mission

Student United Way at Indiana University supports the local community by:

  1. Giving, advocating, and volunteering in the areas of education, income, and health
  2. Helping members and other students grow as leaders and connect to the community
  3. Building lasting relationships amongst members, partners, and with United Way

The Student United Way work includes:

  • Advocating: Educate members and the student body about critical community issues in education, income, and health
  • Volunteering: Serve, and recruit peers to serve, in meaningful ways that help create lasting change
  • Giving: Fundraise and donate to help address critical issues facing the community

What We Do

Partnerships

To address the lack of communication between service organizations on IU’s campus, we partner with existing service clubs on campus to share resources, volunteer opportunities, and brain power. Interested in becoming a partner organization? Contact unitedwaystudent3@gmail.com

Campus Awareness

  • Monthly Meetings: Our meetings take place the first Tuesday of each month in SGIS 1122. We dive into the problems United Way aims to solve through guest speakers, workshops, movies, and other activities.?
  • Volunteering Events: We spend a few hours once a month volunteering with one of our partner organizations to observe how they are fulfilling their mission.
  • Fundraising: We host one fundraising event each month to benefit education, income, and health causes. Donations are distributed to United Way of Monroe County’s member agencies.
